God does not change our will
What we have in our hearts are there because of the circumstances in our lives that form our wills. If we have a love for money, that is in our heart to go obtain as much as we can. If we have lust or envy for worldly things, that is in our heart and we pursue those things. We have all been guilty of these things to some degree at one time or another. But when we realized that a life in the Kingdom of God was better, we chose to repent of those things, die to ourselves by giving up worldly things, and follow Christ. We changed our wills to do His will. Example: when Jesus sent His disciples out 2 by 2 to preach the gospel of the kingdom, He told them to shake the dust off their feet if anyone rejected their message. God wants us to choose to obey. He doesn’t change our will to force us to obey.
